Pakistan’s Shaan and Indian Ajay Devgan are all set to come together in Satish Kaushik’s next venture, produced by businessman Ashok Khemka. Shaan is also known as the Shah Rukh Khan of Pakistan.
The film also stars Aditya Panscholi. An Indian actress will be taken for Devgan while a Pakistani actress is being finalised for Shaan. Story, script and screenplay is by journalist Moin Beg and the screenplay is by Rumi Jaffrey with music by Himesh Reshammiya.
“It’s a real-life story based on the friendship between Beg and his Pakistani friend,” says Khemka who plans to make this Indo-Pak venture at a cost approximating 15-20 crore.
“The Pakistani guy is basically an extrovert, mischievous and fun-loving while the Indian guy is serious and an introvert,” says Beg. Based around 1984 when the two countries were still hostile towards each other the friends used to connect through letters.
“It’s not about two countries but the friendship between two guys,” says Kaushik. The main story is based on the bond between the two but has the threads of a love story and investigations interwoven into it. “Ajay flipped when he heard the role and immediately said yes.” He is also excited with the idea of working with Devgan.
“This is the first time I am working with him though I am a very good friend of his dad, Veeru Devgan.” The reason that that he wanted Shaan for the role was “because we wanted a good actor, someone very good-looking with a good physique and Shaan fits the role.”
Shaan, when contacted in Lahore admits that Satish and he had discussed the film. “But I still have to go through the script.” He has seen Devgan’s work and finds him “quite mature as an actor who has made good decisions regarding his career.”
What are the roles he wants to do? “I want to a vast variety of roles — comedy, serious, mature, negative, action, romance because that’s what acting is all about. ” He is also keen on doing parallel cinema.
The film will be shot in London, Pakistan, India and the border areas.
